The 17 SDGs are concrete expression of the 2030 Agenda: an action program for the people, the planet for the full achievement of Human Rights.
The document, created and signed in September 2015 by all 193 UN member countries, will guide the world over the next 15 years towards the path of sustainability, universal peace, full and global respect for Human Rights, gender equality and emancipation. Each country is called at every level, from institutions, governments, organizations, leaders, policy makers / takers, communities, to individual citizens, to provide its contribution to the achievement of the objectives.
As with Human Rights, the actions of human beings are often not careful and respectful of the dignity of other human beings and of the environment in which they live.
In order to try to stem these behaviours and guarantee an egalitarian development for everyone, common objectives have been identified on a set of important issues for development: the fight against poverty, the reduction of hunger and the fight against climate change, for example. Common goals mean that they concern all countries and all people: no one is excluded, nor must it be left behind on the path for sustainability.
AICEM contributes to the achievement of the 17 SDGs through:
The SDGs replace and further articulate, into 169 targets, the work of the Millennium Goals that preceded them.
They aim at solving fundamental development issues such as the fight against poverty, the elimination of hunger and the fight against climate change.
The SDGs are interconnected and indivisible and insist in their work on the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental.
The responsibility for achieving them is shared globally, regionally and nationally and this encourages everyone’s responsibility, supports international cooperation and allows exchanges of good practices and mutual learning.
Fundamental is the establishment of a multilevel working network that intercepts and coordinates the efforts of all the actors involved in the direction of achieving the 17 objectives.
